| Description: Corner block. All surfaces partly preserved; fasciae on interior as well as exterior. Underside finished with anathyrosis and a relieving surface (?). Top surface worked with tooth chisel; bears both pry and lewis holes. Part of corner surface worked with anathyrosis. Molding above fasciae on both the long side and the interior, broken away. The joining block was secure to the corner block by a sloping dowel. Vertical surface above crowning moldings worked with a tooth chisel on the exterior and rough-picked interior. All fasciae worked with toothed chisel. Excellent workmanship. From the Hellenistic Metroon. Pentelic marble. <graphic> |
