| Description: Much worn by traffic in its present position. From same series as A 2987, with which it corresponds in material, measurements and workmanship. Marble cloudy gray in color with pronounced lamination. Excellent work. Clearing in 1964 revealed that one corner of the cap is broken away and the broken edges much worn but traffic: hence damaged and discarded (?). Mason's mark on under side: A. (H.A.T.). |
| Context: Imbedded in Panathenaic Way opposite S.W. corner of Library of Pantainos where it was overlaid by the aqueduct leading to the water mill at the N.W. corner of the Library. |
