Title: Frieze Block: Doric
Category: Architecture Poros
Description: Complete except for chips. Doric frieze block preserves one metope and one triglyph. On either side of triglyph is a slot for the insertion of a metope (presumably of marble). The triglyph is not flush with the edge of the block, but set in ca. 0.115m., so the joints of metope slabs and frieze blocks would not fall in the same place. The tops of the glyphs are rounded and deeply undercut. On the top, at the left end are traces of two swallow tail clamp cuttings. At the right end are another clamp cutting and a pry hole.
Soft yellow poros, reddened by fire in places.
Context: Built into Byzantine Wall.
