Title:   The Tholos of Athens and Its Predecessors
Author:   Thompson, H. A.
Abstract:   Famous classical buildings, such as the Parthenon, are preserved in such monumental isolation that it is hard to reconstruct the effect that they might have had on the ancient visitor. Their setting relative to other buildings, to statues, and surrounding vegetation is lost to us. This book presents a forensic examination of the archaeological remains on the Acropolis to reconstruct the immediate surroundings of one of the most striking monuments of antiquity.
