Head inclining towards her proper left. Heavy spreading neck with Venus rings indicated; full mouth, long nose. Most of forehead shown. Curly hair with additional corkscrew-curls stuck one by one separately; some of them show above the broad head band she is wearing. Below the band, woolen wreath. Behind the ears projections, one broken off, the other chipped; traces of something else coming down on each side of the face behind the hair.; Had the head been janiform, these things could very easily be explained as the back of the ears and round beard of the Silen's head (e.g. JHS 49 (1929), p. 73, fig. 26). The head, fillet, ""ears"" and ""beard"" covered with white, used rather as underpainting; traces of pink preserved in several places. On wreath and hair, dark yellow. Good glaze. White gone at places.; ; Cf. in general: CVA Oxford, p. 10, text to pl. IV:7-8; JdI 32 (1917) p. 56 (BM E 790).","","Oinochoe: Woman's Head","","P 23822","Beginning of 4th c. Much missing from the upper part; the stand is intact except for chips, but there is no direct join between it and the body of the base. Nearly half the body is missing, and three-quarters of the neck. Restored in plaster. Projecting lip, with moulded vertical face. The attachments of one upright, horizontal handle preserved. Note in the stand, just below its top, two triangular openings, opposite each other. Cf. Beazley (1931), Pan-Maler, text to no. 83.; On base, between bands of inverted rays below and linked buds above, three groups of two women each, seated, facing, on stools, engaged in working wool from baskets. Garments or fillets hang on the wall, and a bird stands, right, on the floor beween two of the groups. On the body (back), a procession of draped women to right, carrying folded packages on their heads. Under the handles, Nike, running right, followed by Hermes with caduceus, then a woman, left, and the heads of two horses. Missing, the wedding procession(?). Around the base of the neck, alternating red and black tongues. Added red and white freely used.","","Black Figure Lebes Gamikos","","P 7897","","Agora:Object:P 7897","Agora","055CF1BD-EB65-4286-A92C-DE1FF07DA501","28 May 1936","","Object","","" "","One handle missing.
