Behind the ears projections, one broken off, the other chipped; traces of something else coming down on each side of the face behind the hair.\nHad the head been janiform, these things could very easily be explained as the back of the ears and round beard of the Silen's head (e.g. JHS 49 (1929), p. 73, fig. 26). The head, fillet, \"ears\" and \"beard\" covered with white, used rather as underpainting; traces of pink preserved in several places. On wreath and hair, dark yellow. Good glaze.
