Title:   Statuette Fragment: Eros
Category:   Sculpture
Description:   Torso, including back of neck, wing attachments, right upper arm and tops of thighs, of statuette, with brown weathering as well as some scratches and chips.
The statuette represents an Eros, unstringing his bow, as in the case of Lysippos' Eros, dating ca. 340-330 B.C. (see Nb. XXXII flap). This copy, perhaps a long-haired, mirror image copy of that type, shows Eros bending at the waist, with his right leg advanced, with both arms and head to the right.
Fine-grained white marble.
Conservation Status:   Finished
Context:   Buttress(?), south of wall C. Basket 55.
Handling:   The wings should be kept with the torso unless other wings are found that match the piece.
The surface of the marble is slightly soft, so it should be handled with care to avoid abrasion.
