More likely, either her right hand was empty or a pair of greaves may have been suspended from her wrist, and her outstretched left hand held something else, perhaps the hero's helmet or his sword. ... Thus, the composition might have looked like this: (1) a Nereid holding a helmet or sword and perhaps the greaves; (2) Thetis with shield and spear, facing (3) Achilleus.
