| Preserved height is probably close to original height, not much worn on top to judge for dowel leading. In top at 0.30m. from right side and 0.29m. from present front, 0.22m. from present back, a dowel ... August 1961 ... The small size of the dowels would be unusual for a geison of a building of any size. Since so little (max. 0.055m.) of the projection in front of the molding is preserved, one cannot be sure this was a geison of a building. ... After examination of the single remaining geison block on the site of the Temple of Athena at Sounion it seems beyond reasonable doubt that this piece is not only a geison but actually one of the Temple of Athena series. |
