The murder, actually the result of a love feud, was quickly deemed a political act of assassination and the perpetrators, ... The murder, actually the result of a love feud, was quickly deemed a political act of assassination and the perpetrators, Harmodios and Aristogeiton, were proclaimed heroes and tyrannicides. ... This fragment is probably part of the original base under the statues of Harmodios and Aristogeiton, who assassinated Hipparchos. Only part of the inscription is preserved, the name of Harmodios and the phrase "established their native land."
