For several decades the Spartans had enjoyed a reputation as the best warriors in Greece, and with the help of a Spartan army led by King Kleomenes the tyrants were thrown out in 510 B.C. ... Isagoras then called in the Spartans again. Kleomenes expelled 700 Athenian families, who joined Kleisthenes in exile. When Kleomenes and Isagoras tried to rescind the new Kleisthenic constitution, however, the Athenian people rose up in arms against them, threw the Spartans out, and recalled Kleisthenes.
