Reserved: deep interior of bottom, resting surface and outer face of foot, line halfway up body, inside and outside lip, within handles, and circle within forming tondo. ... Outside: tendrils coiled beneath handles lead to 5- or 6-leaved palmettes which frame scenes of youths-unarmed except for shields, in combat. ... On the other side a nude youth, holding an undecorated shield and his right arm held high, advances to right, toward a second youth seen in three-quarter frontal view who is retreating right, holding a shield decorated with an animal, apparently a horse, possibly intended to be a panther. |
