In the very middle of the top is a large dowel hole for fastening the geison (an end dowel that gripped two adjacent blocks) and a cutting for a clamp leading to the frieze backer. ... Complete. Corner block from the plinth of a large monument. Finished on two adjacent sides with a cyma reversa. In top a shallow bedding, apparently for a colossal left foot. Hard gray poros. (Consider ... 2 September 1964 ... (Consider the possibility that this block and A 3476 come from the pedestal at the west end of the Middle Stoa, c. 1.30m. to N.E.). ... "The two blocks, A 3475 and A 3476, could not have been originally cut to serve as bases for lions. ... It is strange that the right half of A 3476 was not cut down, that the high fascia was made visible along half of the short end.

Mycenaean Chamber Tomb under north side of Temple of Ares, towards its west end.(1951). The tomb had a hasty and unfinished appearance oddly at variance with its long history and the quality of the pottery ... 1st: Myc IIB-IIA:1-2, 2nd: Myc. IIIC:1 (1450-1200 B.C.) ... Mycenaean Chamber Tomb under north side of Temple of Ares, towards its west end.(1951). ... The original dromos ran from west to east and entered the chamber toward the south end of the long west wall. ... Centered in the northeast wall, this second doorway was only 0.59m. wide, but well cut. The dromos leading to the second door scarcely deserved the name, being stubby and narrow, 1.58m long with a maximum width of 0.75m.

Tomb located about 2m west/west-southwest of the EG1 child inhumation, beneath the restored line of a hypothetical wall connecting the western "apse' and the south wall of the Geometric House. The floor of the "house" could not be distinguished from the earth packing at the top of the grave. A roughly rectangular trench was cut through earth into bedrock, except at the southeast where it was wholly cut into earth, to a depth of 0.15-0.20m. ... Remnants of a stone packing over the trench survived on the west side and for a short distance along the north.

Mycenaean Chamber Tomb occupies a considerable part of the western half of section ΕΕ; lies about half way up the north slope of the Areopagus towards its eastern end, just below the highest point of the ... Myc. III A:1 ... It was originally several meters longer but its northern end was cut off by a late Roman retaining wall. ... Its roof has entirely caved in, except for a small bit projecting at the north end of the west side; probably was not flat but slightly concave (all along the north side it seems that it rises from the sides toward the center). Across the east and west ends of the chamber there is a low rock-cut bench (average width 0.75m; average height 0.60m).

The tomb was located in the area between pits A and D, and was just over 2m to the east of the preserved west wall of the Geometric House. ... On the left side of the cranium was a pair of cockle shells, compared by the excavator to similar shells found in Rhodian graves.

The tomb, located at the center of Room III in the NE area of section ΒΖ, was found under fill surrounding perpendicular mid-to late 6th c ... LHIIIA ... The foundations, part of a now-absent structure through the area, were inserted deeply as the result of an anomaly in the soil: the collapsed tomb, cut into the hillside's soft bedrock. ... The tomb contents were found spread over the tomb of the floor, but especially concentrated at the back east and south walls. A strip of fill at the north side of the cutting, just below the scarp of Wall L remained unexcavated at the end of the season (J/17,18-1/10,11; 51.290-51.376 masl.) 2018: We removed a final strip of fill in the chamber below the scarp under Wall K (J/17,19-1/10,11). ... Scarping revealed the blocking wall of the chamber. A more complete analysis of these findings appears in the 2018 end-of-season report.
